Strategy of the Day | Mood Meter
“Have me use a “mood meter” or chart so I can express how I am feeling for you during class.”
Best for: Students who have difficulty communicating their emotions, understanding social cues, and reading facial expressions.
Intervention details: Use a color-coded diagram or pictures of faces for easier identification of mood. Use the mood meter in the middle of emotional outbursts as a way to redirect their energy from what is causing the emotion to figuring out how they are feeling.
Desired results: For students to be able to recognize the feelings going on inside of them, label and understand them, and eventually, be able to regulate their own behavior.
