Back to School | Animated Avatars
“Create animated avatars to read aloud or deliver instructions because sometimes it is easier to focus on animation….. and it’s better than hearing you talk all day.“
Best for: Students who are have difficulty focusing, who have auditory processing delays, or who have difficulty with face-to-face interaction.
Intervention details: We recommend using the free web platform called Voki where you can easily create age appropriate characters for your grade level and then pre-record directions, read-aloud sections or any type of instruction ahead of time.
Expert Tip: Consistently use a unique avatar for different activities to double-up as a Non-Verbal Cue. For example, if the Smiley Face Man is always delivering instructions for reading time, your students will know when it is reading time just by seeing him.
Desired results: Students will pay attention to and process directions better. There will be less distraction during instruction time and the teacher can be focusing on something else when directions are being given!
